The Christmas Roof 2000
Volunteer feedback
|
| West London Initiative on Single Homelessness |
At the end of the Roof, the volunteers were asked to fill in a questionnaire.
Here are some answers to the questions about their most memorable moments:
Best moment
Talking to guests (x 4)........ and talking to volunteers.
Gate duty.
Going into warmth.
Sorting out shoes.
Gratitude in someone’s face when I gave them a pair of socks.
Speaking to two people in particular – their sense of humour and seeing
how much WISH makes a difference to their Christmas.
Worst moment
Loo cleaning.
Gate duty (someone elses best moment)
Being freezing (x 4).
Cleaning up vomit.
The first 20 minutes, four of us standing in the pitch dark and cold,
staring at a fire exit not knowing what on earth we were doing this for.
Funniest moment
A surreal humour ran throughout.
Cleaning up vomit (hopefully the same as above)
Dancing at the gate.
Guests’ sense of humour.
You should hear some of the jokes I heard.
Other comments they made:
It was good – a very good cause. The volunteers who had worked December
until opening to get the shelter ship shape and habitable had done a very
good job.
Great experience.
Thanks for the experience to you and your guests.
Great time and very rewarding… would definitely love to do it again.
I really enjoyed today and would definitely return to help.
I think it was a warm and lovely place. Much better than I expected.
If you feel you would like to be part of the experience (apart from
the vomit!) See how you can help on our volunteering
page.
