1999 / 2000: A REVIEW

West London Initiative on Single Homelessness

CHAIR’S SUMMARY

Now in its fifth year WISH is continuing to consolidate its place as an important part in the network of provision for the single homeless in West London. We have, during this time, begun to provide Outreach services to rough sleepers and have enhanced our contacts with other service providers and homelessness forums.

The refugee problem created by social dislocation, both in Europe and the wider world will in the coming year present new demands and requirements on both housing and support functions.
WISH will be contributing towards this effort as a member of The Refugee and Asylum Seekers Community Liaison Group of the London Borough of Hounslow.

The government has committed itself, with the help of the voluntary sector, to tackle the problem of rough sleepers, with a target of reducing their numbers by two thirds in 2002.

Although this is an immense task, WISH, along with other voluntary sector agencies, will be monitoring this project closely, and where possible assisting, to ensure a just, workable and lasting solution.

Whilst it was not possible in 1999, WISH will continue to offer the annual Christmas Roof, and is committed to increasing and improving the quality and range of services offered on a year by year basis.

The work that WISH does is vital, none of it would be possible without the support of our donors, whose continuing assistance is essential for the continuance and expansion of our work.

WISH relies entirely on the efforts and commitment of its growing number of volunteers; without their efforts we would not be able to help so many needy people.
