Fundraising

WISH relies entirely on donations to carry out its work. In 1996 a Fundraising Working Group was set up to raise necessary monies from trusts, funds and grant-making bodies. Several hundred organisations were approached, by phone, letter and sometimes in person. Due to the increasing demands placed on such funds, many were unable to help. However, WISH received a number of substantial corporate and trust donations that, together with significant financial support from individual donors, made the 1997 Christmas Roof possible.

Setting off on the ramble

The Working Group also arranged the second WISH riverside ramble in September 1997. The small army of sponsored walkers who set out from Putney Bridge enjoyed excellent weather as they covered the 15 miles of the Thames Path to Hampton Court. The walkers were well looked after, with checkpoint refreshments every three miles and a much-needed foot massage at the end. The walk raised £1100 towards the cost of the 1997 Christmas Roof.
At the finish
The third riverside ramble will take place on Sunday, 20th September 1998 and new walkers are very welcome. Details are available from the charity.
