Chairman's Introduction

WISH was founded in 1995 by a group of volunteers to provide temporary accommodation, help and support to homeless people in West London. Since that time the charity has established itself as an essential part of the network of service providers in the area.

Given the site problems experienced in 1996, we were delighted to be given the opportunity to work in conjunction with Jesus House in providing this year's Christmas Roof. It was considered by everyone to be a peaceful, safe and enjoyable experience.

The operation of the charity depends entirely on the support of approximately four hundred other volunteers, who donate considerable time and effort to the work. We continue to maintain contact between volunteers through occasional training sessions and the WISH Newsletter, initiated in 1996.

Further research has been initiated to enable us to expand our direct service provision by means of a soup and clothing run. The need has been determined by a combination of information previously gathered from other organisations, feedback from Roof guests and outreach work carried out over the Christmas period. One of our main aims in 1998 will be to raise the funds necessary to provide this additional service.
