Annual Report: 1996

West London Initiative on Single Homelessness

CHAIRMAN'S INTRODUCTION

WISH was founded in September 1995 by a group of volunteers to provide temporary accommodation, help and support to homeless people in West London.

During the year the charity initiated several areas of research into needs and provision within the West London Area.  Information obtained from this research is detailed within this report.

With no regular source of income, fundraising is of vital importance.  In addition to soliciting donations from companies and charitable trusts, the charity organised a successful Riverside Ramble

To provide its services, WISH depends entirely on the help of several hundred volunteers.  The charity is still very young and it’s main activities focus around the Christmas period.  In order to maintain contact with volunteers and to provide them with the skills they need, a regular newsletter was introduced and a training weekend held.

A considerable amount of effort was expended on arranging the 1996 WISH Christmas Roof and the Trustees are extremely grateful to the organisations and individuals who donated time, money and goods in kind.  Unfortunately, site promised became unavailable at a very late stage and the charity was unable to find an alternative venue.  The impact of this was reported in the media.
