Individual givingHere are some ways that individuals can support WISH tax-effectively:Gift Aid Gift Aid is a Government initiative which allows charities such as WISH to recover tax on any donation you make at the basic rate of 22%, increasing your donation to 28% at no extra cost to you. If you are a higher-rate taxpayer, you can claim the difference between the two tax rates on your annual return. Give As You Earn If your employer operates this payroll giving scheme, then you can take advantage of what is probably the easiest way for working people to give to charity. Your donation is taken straight from your pay, before the tax is deducted. As an added bonus, the Government have guaranteed to add an extra 10% to all donations until April 2003. Involving others Find out your employer’s policy on charitable donations. Many will match the funds that employees raise. Does your office, school, church, club, etc have any sponsored activities that could support WISH? We are happy to give your group a presentation about our work. Gift of shares A gift of shares to WISH can be extremely tax effective. You do not have to pay Capital Gains Tax on the share disposal and can deduct the value of the shares gifted from your taxable income. Personal Charitable Trust This is a way to give long-term regular support to the causes you care about. It is also a way to involve your family, now and beyond your lifetime. Which leads on to… |

You can use your donate a specified amount of money or even a particular item (such as jewellery, furniture, stocks and shares or property) that you feel sure your estate can afford. Alternatively, you can donate all or part of the “residue” i.e. what's left of the value of your estate after all debts and administration expenses have been settled and any specific bequests have been met. |
