The year 2000/2001 was a successful one for WISH. Sufficient funds
were raised to enable
us to continue to help homeless people in West London. Much of this
was from donations from corporate and individual donors and Trusts. The
yearly Riverside Ramble once again boosted this income as well as helping
keep in touch with our volunteers.
Our direct services included The Roof, which provided warmth, companionship
and practical help over the Christmas period; and The Sunday Breakfast
Club, which was a new venture for WISH. As well as continuing these, the
planning and costing for an All Night Cafe is developing apace.
Several new links with other organisations were established and previous
ones strengthened. WISH was one of the homelessness agencies that advised
the GLA prior to the publication of its consultative document on homelessness
in London. WISH worked with Crisis so that the Christmas services would
be complementary and integrated. The Breakfast Club means we are working
closely with colleagues at Cricklewood Homeless Concern on a regular basis.
The work at Cricklewood has also enabled us to continue researching
the needs of a consistent group of rough sleepers so that we can ensure
we are providing the most appropriate service and using the funds raised
in the most efficient way possible. Other research has been carried out
whenever an opportunity was provided and health is one of the areas that
WISH tends to focus on.
