| OCTOBER |
| Christmas was on the horizon and
most of our efforts were concentrated on the Roof. But not all of them:
this was the time when we were flat out raising the last few pounds we
needed to make the Roof happen. Local businesses were particularly helpful
with donations in kind (from food to transport to storage crates) saving
us significant amounts. |
Charitable Trusts, are an important source of income for
WISH. Using specialist software, we can locate those Trusts most interested
in supporting the kind of work WISH carries out but it still takes hours
of research and letter writing to complete the task. We can always do with
more help. |
| We needed to raise more than ever this year in order to
get the Breakfast Club started. We are hoping to recruit additional volunteers
to help us make the most of the corporate and public sector funding that
is available. |

| Statements from the Government's Rough Sleeper
Unit suggested that the homelessness problem was all but solved.
This, together with the popular image of homeless people as feckless scroungers,
made it harder to raise the funds needed. Despite this, we remain determined
to carry on, as our experience demonstrates that the most vulnerable in
our society continue to slip though the net. We see the difference
to the quality of life and self-respect to which our work contributes. |
| The consultative document, which WISH and the GLA had been
working on, was published in its final form. The aims of this are to provide
more consistent and available advice; to create a single access point for
all types of advice and to enable the homeless to have a say in London's
future by enfranchising them. |
