Much of the hard work of finding a building,
planning the technical requirements and obtain goods and services had already
been done. |
| December was the Roof. |

| The physical work of converting the building continued
and took most of December. After weeks of hard work it was beginning to
take shape, the kitchen was fitted out, the first aid room built, toilets
and showers installed and we had even started to paint some areas. Work
continued throughout December, the carpet was laid and decorations hung
after which it looked more like "home". At the end of all this the reward
was to see the Roof site completed and open to "guests". They entered a
large converted industrial building to be greeted by warm food and a welcoming
atmosphere. |

| For the next seven days they were be able to come and go
as they pleased throughout the 24 hours. Unlike night shelters the Roof
does not insist on any fixed hours of attendance. During their stay guests
could access doctors, dentists, chiropodists, advice workers, a visiting
optician and hairdressers. In addition to this there was three hot meals
a day; hot drinks throughout the day and night; a clothing service (including
alterations) and showers. |
The aim is to provide a safe welcoming and secure environment;
feedback from our guests suggests that WISH is achieving this.

The guests survey conducted at the Roof will enable us
to identify improvement for future years. |
