One of WISH's main fundraising events, usually held on the third Sunday
in September, has been the Riverside Ramble.
 |
A band of walkers gather at Putney Bridge and follow the
Thames towpath upstream for 7.5 miles (12 km) past some of the most historic
sites on London's riverside. |
 |
 |
They travel through delightful Barn Elms and Kew enjoying
refreshments at the checkpoints along the way. The walk is both a pleasant
stroll and an opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones. |
| The onto a delightful riverside pub, the White Cross in
Richmond, which is the halfway mark. Some choose to finish their walk there;
the remainder are joned by others who have decided to do the second 7½
miles of the walk only. |
 |
The walkers continue through Teddington, where
they pass the Pool of London, then through Kingston |
 |
to the finish at the splended Hampton Court Palace. |
There is no time limit and walkers usually take between
five and seven hours |
| After collecting their certificates, walkers make thier way home, tired
but happy knowing that they have helped to raise much needed funds.. |
