West London Initiative on Single Homelessness
WISH NEWSLETTER
SPRING/SUMMER 1999

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
WISH, now entering its fifth year, continues to work with single homeless people in West London.

Sustained research indicates a growing and under-resourced need amongst this isolated and vulnerable group and highlights problems that are exacerbated every Christmas. Feedback from rough sleepers at the roof highlights the need to provide contact, advice and assistance to the most lonely and overlooked members of our society.

Following research previously conducted by WISH, a detailed plan has been developed and awaits implementation, subject to sufficient and continuing funding becoming available.

None of this work would be possible without the invaluable support and assistance of you, the volunteers who help throughout the year.

Since 1997, WISH has been researching the need for and planning the establishment of an outreach service for the single homeless i West London.

This service will bring to rough sleepers companionship, advice, hot food and a bespoke clothing service.

Having recently secured a grant from the Mackintosh Foundation, and in addition to some money from the WISH reserves, we are now able to engage in more detailed planning and to focus on implementation.

A working group has been constituted to bring this idea to fruition and we plan to have the service up and running this summer. It will be available every weekend throughout the year.
