Each year WISH needs to locate a building for our Christmas Roof.

The search for a suitable building starts in about September. It may seem early to be thinking about Christmas but there is a lot of planning involved in setting up this size of project. Our requirements are basic, but our need is great. We need a building in West London that will be available from early December to mid-January.  We've got some absolutely necessary requirements, and some desirable ones that we can work around.

The building is usually a disused warehouse, but we have even previously used an old police station! Some buildings require more work than others, the site for the 2000 Roof was one that required more than usual. If you know of an empty building but think it's condition is too poor, let us know about it and we can decide if it is possible to use it. We have a number of professional carpenters, electricians, plumbers and other workers who will do all other works necessary to make the building suitable for a shelter, including providing carpeting, kitchens, clothing store and medical rooms.

We return the buidling to its owner(s) in early January in a condition as good as, or often better, than we received it.

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:

• 8-25,000 sq ft (preferably 10-12,000)
• Connected to all mains services and drainage
• Lockable yard adjacent to the building, or at least...
• Hard standing for toilets, etc

• Is on not more than two floors
• Has existing, working heating
• Is close to a town centre (1-2 miles)
• Is not in a heavily residential area
• Is close to public transport
• Has adequate car parking
